Our first task was to find, use and change pictures from the internet and try change the meaning of the image. I had the idea of taking happy images and making them look eerie and slightly off putting; for this, I looked at gothic style pictures for inspiration and came across a photographer called Amanda Norman. She uses the idea of dark spaces and shadows to create an off-putting feel to her pictures. This appealed to me in my images.
I found my first image on google images linking it to the following page http://orig05.deviantart.net/3c83/f/2013/131/b/8/stock_premade_background10_by_gwendolyn1_stock-d64wakh.jpg ,I changed My first image of a glowing forest to black and white and then changed the white balance on the images to create different levels of darkness thus creating shadows; By changing the hue on the image underneath the black and white layer created a mist like effect on the forest. This changed the meaning of the image from a bright and happy image of a path in a forest to an off-putting dark forest which would be haunting to walk through.
For my second picture taken from http://www.gettyimages.com/gi-resources/images/RoyaltyFree/113198687.jpg , I wanted to stick with the slightly eerie feel that Amanda Norman portrays but I also wanted it to be like an old fashioned film. I looked into photographers with similar images to what I wanted to create and came across Tom Mallonee and his image of Getty’s memorial Baptist church. The image shows the church in a baron landscape which draws your attention to the church. The colouration of the image makes the image look old and almost like film footage. I changed the image to black and white to get the same effect as Maloonee’s image of the church; This changed the image from a happy image of a girl with balloons to a slightly weird image of a women in a desert type setting holding balloons, the lack of colour makes the reader of the image question the happiness in this image and slightly confused as to why she is there.
My third image is one of a house found here; https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/12/This_Old_House.jpg
I went back to Amanda Norman for this picture by trying to make the image dark and gothic. I took a happy photo of a house and put it in black and white, changed the white baldence to make more shadows and then photoshopped in a picture of a ghost lady and her son, which I got from https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3d/1950-08-白毛女和小白毛.png ,into one of the windows. This I felt gave you an uncomforting feeling as you look at the picture because you feel watched.
